Quantum Stabilization Chamber — Model SQ-12
One of the devices used in the Three Kingdoms to stabilize matter before an interdimensional transfer.
Crossing a Multiverse does not simply mean disappearing from one place and reappearing somewhere else.

The problem is not leaving. And, strictly speaking, it is not even arriving.
The real problem is being reasonably certain that what arrives is exactly what left.
To solve this small but far from insignificant inconvenience, specialized laboratories throughout the Three Kingdoms use the SQ-12 Quantum Stabilization Chamber, one of the most recognizable pieces of equipment in the field of interdimensional research.
The SQ-12 does not transport people or objects across Multiverses. Systems such as the Dimensi-O-Rama handle that.
Its job comes earlier and is apparently much simpler:
convincing matter not to change its mind during the trip.
Stabilize Before You Transfer
Interdimensional transfer subjects matter to an extremely complex process.
During materialization, the subject's structure passes through a temporary phase in which it is reconstructed according to a two-dimensional pattern before gradually regaining volume, consistency, and physical structure during what technicians call the Solidification Passage.
For a table, this may be relatively straightforward.
For a living organism, considerably less so.
An organism is not simply a certain amount of matter arranged in a particular way. It is a system made up of billions of relationships that must be reconstructed while preserving position, continuity, and—above all—coherence.
An infinitesimal reconstruction error in a toolbox can be annoying.
The same error applied to a brain tends to be received with considerably less enthusiasm.
The SQ-12 is therefore used before the most delicate operations to create a kind of stable reference for the subject's quantum configuration.
In less elegant terms: before someone is dismantled by reality and shipped somewhere else, the machine carefully records exactly how that person is supposed to be put back together.
How It Works
The subject is positioned at the center of the chamber, inside the large containment ring.
A series of coils arranged along the structure then generates a field capable of temporarily isolating the matter configuration from surrounding dimensional fluctuations.
The standard procedure consists of four stages.
1. Scan
The SQ-12 analyzes the subject and builds a model of its physical configuration.
Mass, distribution, molecular organization, and biological parameters are recorded before the field is activated.
Moving during this stage is discouraged.
Leaving the machine is even more strongly discouraged.
2. Lock
The main ring generates the containment field and synchronizes it with the subject.
The large external coils progressively compensate for detected oscillations until the system reaches a condition considered sufficiently stable.
The characteristic electrical crackling visible during this stage is perfectly normal.
At least in most cases.
3. Stabilization
Once the lock has been established, the SQ-12 maintains a reference configuration of the matter for several seconds.
Transfer systems can then use this configuration as a control parameter during the subsequent reconstruction process.
At this stage, the subject may experience slight pressure, a temporary metallic taste, or the impression that something just moved behind them.
Technical manuals assure users that the last sensation is almost always unfounded.
4. Release
Once stabilization is complete, the field is gradually reduced and the subject can be transferred to the interdimensional system.
The stabilization window is not permanent.
For this reason, SQ-12 chambers and transfer systems are normally installed relatively close to one another.
The SQ-12 and the Dimensi-O-Rama Are Not the Same Thing
This is a fairly common mistake.
The Dimensi-O-Rama enables travel across parallel realities.
The SQ-12 does not open any passage and does not transport anything anywhere.
The difference can be summarized very simply:
the Dimensi-O-Rama transfers. The SQ-12 stabilizes what is about to be transferred.
This does not make mistakes impossible.
Navigation through the Multiverses is still subject to a considerable number of variables, and a perfectly stabilized subject can still be sent to the wrong destination.
The SQ-12 can help make sure you arrive in one piece.
It cannot guarantee that you arrive where you intended to go.
For that, you will have to blame someone else.
Why Does Such Advanced Technology Look So Mechanical?
The question is asked mostly by visitors from worlds where technological progress has become associated with the gradual disappearance of levers, dials, tubes, metal, and moving parts.
In Gnomopolis, that principle has never been particularly successful.
Many advanced systems used throughout the Three Kingdoms deliberately rely on mechanical components, analog indicators, and physical controls because they maintain predictable behavior even in the presence of intense dimensional distortion.
A dial is not necessarily primitive.
A lever is not necessarily obsolete.
And a machine covered in coils, metal, and electrical discharges is not necessarily less sophisticated than a device that merely looks more modern.
In Gnomopolis, technology is judged primarily by one far more practical standard:
it has to work.
Appearance comes later.
Unless Nanity Fair hears about it.
A Few Facts About the SQ-12
After every complete cycle, the chamber produces a strong smell of ozone that may remain in the room for several minutes.
Technical personnel consider this perfectly normal and tend to become much more concerned when the smell fails to appear.
During calibration, bringing any object into the chamber that was not registered during the initial scan is also strictly prohibited.
The rule includes tools, weapons, jewelry, containers, pets, and food.
The final category was added to the regulations following an incident for which the Royal Academy of Varda archives provide no further details.
The SQ-12 operating manual also contains the following warning three separate times, printed in progressively larger type:
DO NOT ACTIVATE THE CHAMBER JUST TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
The fact that someone considered it necessary to print the warning three times strongly suggests that, at least once, somebody did exactly that.
