“Where the Lake Goes to Sleep”
They say it’s a peaceful place. That the water doesn’t move. That everything is calm.
They’re lying.
The lake doesn’t sleep. It pretends.
It’s still like someone holding their breath too long, waiting for something to happen. Or end.
It’s not calm. It’s stuck.
And there’s a big difference.
If you stare too long, it stares back.
Shows you your own face. Emptied out.
Like it’s asking: who are you when you stop pretending?
The sun dies on it every night. Slow. Elegant.
And the dark?
The dark pulls a sheet over it, like over a body that’s still warm.
You call it peace.
But it’s just the end — with good lighting.”
